White walls of Pampanga

It was June 15, 1991 , at 1:42 pm local time, when the second largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century took place in the Philippines. It killed almost a thousand people and left hundred thousands of families homeless. Over the 9-hour eruption of the mountain, it discharged 15 million tons of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere that resulted a decrease in temperature worldwide.


Huge avalanches of searing hot ash, gas, and pumice fragments (pyroclastic flows) roared down the flanks of Mount Pinatubo, filling once-deep valleys with fresh volcanic deposits as much as 660 feet (200 meters) thick. The eruption removed so much magma and rock from below the volcano that the summit collapsed to form a large volcanic depression (caldera) 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) across.


But my story today is not about the negative things Mt. Pinatubo brought to Pampanga. It’s about the beautiful scenery it created behind the disaster. This is our quest to find the white walls of Pampanga.

Life is meaningless only if we allow it to be

Life is a matter of choice and not by chance.
Many say that what you are now is what you’ve decided to be in the past. We experience a lot of things everyday. Happy, sad, mad, angry, inspired, bored, excited and the list will not end. We think, we choose, we decide. And after deciding, we wait for the result. What happens next? Will it work? Is it okay? I don’t know… Maybe… I guess…  This where it comes in what the purpose of life really is.

For some, life is a disaster, some a paradise. Some live to earn while some needs to earn and then live another day. We walk on different paths and different direction but we all stand on one pavement – life. We eat, drink, breathe and sleep but why does it have to be on different lifestyles?
I believe that God allow things to happen for his glory. You are blessed to be a blessing for others. You lack so you can realize that the only help you need is from you creator. God has a plan for everyone and his plans are always the best. We can only understand if we look beyond what’s obvious.

Let me tell you a brief trivia about Volkswagen cars. Literally, the word "volkswagen" means "people's car." In Germany, the idea of a people's car wasn't exactly a new one. Before the 1930's, there had been many efforts to create simple cars that everyone could afford, but none met with profound success. Almost all cars before 1930, even if they were designed to be simple enough for the average person, ended up costing more than the average worker's yearly wage.

Did you know that the first Volkswagen was a Porsche design? Ferdinand Porsche, who had been chief designer for Daimler-Benz, Auto-Union, and now had his own engineering consultation firm, was put in charge of designing the Volkswagen – “The Peoples Car” by Adolf Hitler.
